A two-destination plan works only if the flight day is treated as a transfer and Jeju still has meaningful time for the route you want.
“Three days in each place” looks balanced, but the move between Seoul and Jeju includes checkout, airport travel, baggage, the flight, arrival and the transfer to the second hotel. That sequence takes usable time. If Jeju is left with only a night and a few hours, the split adds a move without giving the island a real visit.
Reserve the Seoul–Jeju flight date for the handoff
Mark arrival and departure first, then reserve the Seoul–Jeju date for the handoff. A short flight does not turn that date into a full morning of Seoul sightseeing and an afternoon island tour.
A workable split gives Seoul at least two full-use days and Jeju one full day plus another usable morning or evening; exact flight times decide whether that is possible. If the schedule leaves one full day or less on the island, compare a Seoul-only plan using Seoul 5-day itinerary before booking. Further reading: Seoul 5-day itinerary
If Jeju is competing with Busan for the second leg, use Seoul + Busan or Jeju in six days? to compare a rail transfer with the flight and island transfer. Choose the destination whose travel time fits the actual calendar. Further reading: Seoul + Busan or Jeju in six days?
Mark both flight dates as travel blocks. A late Jeju landing leaves only the remaining hours that day, while an afternoon departure shortens Seoul at the other end. For your dates, compare arrival time, ground transfer and check-in before counting sightseeing hours.
Do not let the ticket price decide the order alone. Compare direct-to-Jeju with a Seoul-first itinerary by the fare, hotel night displaced and airport transfer time. Use the Jeju-first or Seoul-first route comparison to place accommodation around the real flight schedule.
Set the island’s first and last nights from flight times
After a late landing, choose a first-night stop you can reach without a cross-island drive. If the next day begins in the south, sleep near the airport and start the longer transfer in daylight; compare area options in the Jeju late-arrival hotel guide.
For a morning flight, start with the handoff: when must the car be returned, and when can bags be checked? Then choose the final hotel. Jeju early-departure hotel options compares locations; distance alone does not settle the car-return and terminal timing.

Keep the Jeju stay on one side of the island
Seoul and Jeju work together when you want a city stay and a distinct island segment, and can place the Jeju nights along one route rather than crossing the island in a short window.
A rental car can support one coast or an inland route. Without driving, narrow the plan to Jeju City and one direction served by the buses you will actually use. Choose the base with where to stay in Jeju. Further reading: where to stay in Jeju
After the calendar supports at least two Jeju nights, decide whether to rent a car with Should you rent a car in Jeju?. Transport should follow the itinerary, not justify squeezing Jeju into too little time. Further reading: Should you rent a car in Jeju?
Build the six-day calendar around those travel blocks
Example six-day split: reserve two full-use days for Seoul, make day three or four the transfer, then protect a full Jeju day plus a usable morning or evening. After landing, leave time for check-in, collecting a car if needed, food and supplies; begin the island route the following day.
Use Jeju four-day itinerary as a stress test: do not let a two-day island stay inherit an attraction list designed for four days. Further reading: Jeju four-day itinerary
Keep Seoul as the base if Jeju has no usable block
If Jeju leaves no usable block, keep one Seoul hotel, group visits by neighbourhood and reserve departure day for the airport. This suits a first visit, fixed city event, non-driving plan, heavy luggage or evenings kept flexible; rain or a slow start can shift outings indoors. One coastal stop rarely justifies an island flight and another check-in. Choose the district with where to stay in Seoul, then use one hotel or two bases test only if an intra-Seoul move is still under consideration.
A city-to-island transfer takes more than flight time. Add baggage rules, airport transit, hotel luggage storage and the first ground leg; with children or older companions, the afternoon may be gone before the next stop. Seoul luggage guide breaks down the hotel-transfer sequence.

Check the trip calendar before paying
- Seoul and Jeju each retain at least one genuinely full day.
- The flight date is reserved for the transfer, not two half-day sightseeing plans.
- The Jeju nights support one route direction and a transport plan you can use.
Before paying, confirm that each destination has a usable day, the flight date is reserved for the transfer and the Jeju nights support one route and transport plan. If one condition fails, a Seoul-only itinerary is a sensible alternative.
