Suwon Hwaseong from day to evening: plan around the palace clock

Hwaseong Haenggung has set visiting hours; the 5.74 km fortress wall is open separately. Arrange the timed palace visit first and choose a manageable wall section afterward.

Hwaseong Haenggung and Suwon Hwaseong’s wall are separate visits. The Suwon Cultural Foundation lists the wall as open year-round, day and night, with free admission. UNESCO records the wall circuit at 5.74 km; it follows the city’s terrain, so a complete circuit is a substantial walk.

Put Hwaseong Haenggung in the daytime slot

Regular palace hours are 09:00–18:00, with entry closing one hour before the end of the visit period. In 2026, the published night opening runs from 1 May through 1 November on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, 18:00–21:30, with last entry at 21:00. That calendar applies to the palace, not the open fortress wall. For visits after 1 November, check the foundation’s next notice rather than assuming the same dates return.

Choose a wall section to fit the remaining light

After the palace, select a start and finish instead of assuming there is time for all 5.74 km. The foundation’s English guided-tour page lists meeting points at Seojangdae, Hwaseomun, Janganmun, Hwahongmun, Yeonmudae and Paldalmun, with the section offered from each point. Use the course map to settle the endpoint before setting out.

The Korea Tourism Organization page, last updated in October 2022, lists bus 66-4 from Suwon Station to Hwaseong Haenggung, then about five minutes on foot. Verify the route, stop and return departure for your date; that page does not provide a current last-bus time.
