Your first connection after landing in Korea

Activate a Korea eSIM After Landing: Check Each Setting in Order

At the airport, leave Airplane Mode, select the Korea eSIM for mobile data and follow that plan’s roaming rule. Turn Wi-Fi off for a quick test before relying on the connection.

After landing, make one SIM change at a time so the data line and roaming setting remain easy to verify.
Just remember five steps: make sure the travel eSIM is present and turned on → turn off airplane mode → set mobile data to the travel eSIM → turn on data roaming for the travel card if the plan instructions require it → turn off Wi-Fi and test. Keep your Taiwan home number active for SMS, but leave data roaming off.

The most useful first step is to change one thing at a time. Confirm the eSIM is installed, turn off airplane mode at the terminal, select it for mobile data, follow its roaming rule and then test with Wi-Fi off. See decision on when to scan the QR Code if you still need to install the plan.

While airport Wi-Fi is available, save the plan name, order number, support contact and activation instructions. Keep the full QR code private; support usually needs the order details and phone status, not a QR screenshot.

If you have not bought a plan yet, check its activation and roaming terms. If you already have an order, follow those exact instructions.

Keep the phone in airplane mode until you can use it at the terminal

Wait until the aircraft has stopped and phone use is allowed. At the terminal, confirm the travel eSIM appears in settings and is enabled; iPhone, Samsung and other Android phones use different menu names.

If the eSIM is missing, do not keep scanning the same QR code. It may already be installed on another device or require a provider reissue. Keep Wi-Fi on and contact support with the order number, phone model and error message.

Keeping the home number active can preserve calls and SMS, but it should not carry data by accident. Select the Korea eSIM for mobile data; see how to divide tasks between your Taiwan number and Korea eSIM for assigning a role to each line.

Select the Korea eSIM for mobile data

The carrier name in the status bar does not show which SIM uses data. Select the Korea eSIM under mobile-data settings and leave automatic switching off while diagnosing.

Use roaming on the travel eSIM only when its product instructions require it. That setting does not mean data roaming should also be enabled on the home number.

Give the phone a minute or two to register. If it remains on “searching,” toggle airplane mode once and wait again; do not change the APN, network and data line all at once.

Match the plan’s validity start and roaming rule to your arrival time before purchase.

Test data before leaving airport Wi-Fi

With Wi-Fi off, load a new page and request directions to your first destination. Test essential SMS separately; cached notifications do not prove mobile data is working.

If LTE or 5G is shown but pages do not load, check the data line, roaming rule, plan status and APN with signal-without-data checks. If there is no carrier registration, begin with no-signal checks.

If maps and the browser work but one app fails, check its mobile-data permission, VPN or account status before resetting network settings.

Save directions and tickets for a late arrival

Test the next task: open the accommodation address, load your transit route or send a message. A speed test alone does not confirm that directions and tickets are accessible.

Hotspot use drains battery and may be restricted. Check hotspot rules for plan limits, and save each traveller’s accommodation details and tickets on their own phone.

After connection, label the lines clearly and note the first-use time if validity starts on first connection. Keep data roaming off on the home SIM.

Avoid changes that can make recovery harder

Do not delete the eSIM, reset network settings or buy another plan before identifying the issue. These steps may remove saved Wi-Fi or require a new profile from the provider.

For support, provide the order number, phone model and OS, eSIM name, location, status-bar state and steps tried. Hide the QR code, IMEI and payment details.

Before leaving Wi-Fi, save the support chat, accommodation address and ticket details so they remain available if the network needs longer to connect.

Before replacing a plan, distinguish no signal, signal without data and an expired allowance; each needs a different check.

Continue with the troubleshooting page that matches the screen you see.
