Plan about three hours for Tongdosa’s grounds, Daeungjeon Hall and the Buddhist Museum. Treat it as the main stop of the day, then add the transfer time when choosing a Yangsan or Busan base.

Walk the grounds as a connected route
Follow a circuit through the main halls and courtyards. Buddhist relics are enshrined at the ordination platform; Daeungjeon Hall and the Buddhist Museum make separate stops along the way. Check the museum’s closure schedule before building the visit around it.
Check opening hours and transport first
The published hours conflict: VisitKorea lists Tongdosa as open around the clock, while Visit Korean Heritage gives visiting hours of 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Confirm access with the temple before an early or late arrival. By public transport, check the current KTX Ulsan Station connection and walk from the bus stop; drivers should plan parking and the return trip.
Choose your base by the next transfer
Stay in Yangsan if the next day is nearby and a shorter post-visit journey matters. Busan suits a city-focused itinerary but adds more transfer time. For the next night, check Compare Yangsan and Busan stays.
Leave time for a meal or rest after the grounds. If the outer path feels too long, return through the central courtyards and finish the visit there.
