Ulleungdo Ferry and Island Transport: Choose the Port Before the Coast

Ulleungdo planning starts with the sailing you can actually book. The Ulleung Cruise route runs from Pohang Yeongilman Port to Sadong Port; its operator gives a normal passage of about 6 hours 20–50 minutes and a winter crossing of about 7 hours 10 minutes. That is a different arrival context from Dodong or Jeodong, so settle the ferry port and onward transfer before choosing a hotel or coast walk.

Match the base to the arrival port

For the Ulleung Cruise sailing, confirm that your ticket says Sadong, then ask your accommodation how guests and luggage reach it. A room near Dodong or Jeodong may still work, but the transfer should be part of the booking plan rather than an assumption. The operator's schedule and travel FAQ lists current departure details and notes that weather can delay the crossing.

Dodong is a passenger-port and town setting; Jeodong is a working harbour known for squid fishing. These are useful destinations in their own right, but they are not interchangeable ferry terminals. Check the actual arrival pier, accommodation pickup, bus or taxi connection, and the time you need to be back at the port on departure. The Korea Tourism Organization has separate location pages for Dodonghang and Jeodonghang.

Build around the return crossing

The operator lists a late-night Pohang departure and a morning arrival at Sadong in its normal schedule, with the return leaving around midday; winter departure times differ. Check the exact date and check-in deadline on the ticket because sailings, vehicle loading and passenger boarding windows are separate. Keep the first island day light after an overnight crossing, and avoid placing an optional boat trip or remote coast walk immediately before the mainland return.

Before paying, compare the operator’s fare and vehicle conditions with the Korea Shipping Association passenger-vessel booking portal. For the day of travel, read the KOMSA operating-status board and the carrier notice. A scheduled sailing can still be delayed or cancelled for sea conditions.

Leave island trips optional

Choose one coast section that fits the arrival port, daylight and local transport. The road network and bus or taxi availability matter more than the number of viewpoints on a map. Jukdo and other sea excursions need their own live confirmation for departure port, ticket, weather and return; do not make them the only reason the day works.

If the ferry changes, use a port-town day, a confirmed short coast outing and a meal near the accommodation. That keeps the island plan useful without relying on a second boat or a cross-island transfer that has not been arranged.
