Tongyeong harbor to Mireuksan: one day without backtracking

Start in the central harbor district

Walk Dongpirang’s mural lanes while you have energy for the climb. It is a lived-in hillside neighborhood, so expect uneven slopes and stairs, and keep noise down near homes. From there, go to Tongyeong Jungang Market beside Gangguan Port. The market’s shops do not share one timetable; seafood counters and food stalls can close at different times. Check what is open when you arrive rather than assuming the full market operates late.

At the waterfront, Gangguan Port gives you a level pause between the uphill village and the next transfer. If the market is busy, make a short harbor loop and return to the food stalls later. The Korea Tourism Organization lists the market at 14–16 Jungangsijang 1-gil and notes that opening hours vary by store.

Move south to the cable-car station

Address the next leg to Tongyeong Cable Car, 205 Balgae-ro. The line covers 1,975 metres and takes about nine minutes to reach the upper station. From there, the summit is a separate walk; the cable car does not drop you at the summit itself. Allow time for the uphill section, photos and the descent before ticketing closes.

Current VisitKorea listing: round trip ₩17,000 adult, ₩13,000 child and ₩14,000 senior; one way ₩13,500, ₩11,000 and ₩11,500. General listed operation is 10:00–18:00 on weekdays and 09:00–18:00 at weekends, with last ticketing 50 minutes before close. Weather affects service, and the operator’s live date-specific notice takes precedence over general hours. Check the operator schedule and ticket notice before leaving the harbor.

Choose the order by visibility

If the morning forecast is clear and the mountain tends to cloud over later, take a bus or taxi to the cable car first, then return to the harbor district for Dongpirang and the market. If the cable-car forecast is uncertain, start in town and keep a return-to-center option open. Do not fix a bus number or travel time into the plan without checking the service for your day; traffic and current routes can change.

If the cable car stops or the view disappears, stay around Gangguan Port and the market instead of making an extra trip to the station. DPIRANG is an evening light park at Nammangsan, distinct from Dongpirang’s daytime mural lanes. It has separate seasonal hours and admission; check its official notice before adding it.
