Solo Seoul for 4 Days: One Hotel or Move on the Last Night?

Having only one suitcase does not make a hotel move free. It just means nobody else is looking for your charging cable.

For four days in Seoul, keep one hotel unless a second address improves both an evening and the following departure. Hongdae, Myeongdong and Seoul Station serve different plans; changing base helps when it avoids a luggage transfer or a cross-city trip at a fixed time.

Start with arrival, late return and departure

  1. Arrival: check the room-ready time and whether the hotel will hold your bags.
  2. Late return: identify the evening when another train or long walk would be least welcome.
  3. Departure: note the AREX or KTX train, flight time and how early you must leave.

Keep one base when plans may shift

One base leaves room for a longer café stop, a rainy-day change or an unplanned detour. It also avoids a second checkout, bag drop and check-in window.

Treat arrival and departure as partial days. Map the full mornings and evenings against Seoul four-day itinerary before adding another address.

Move only when the new address solves two legs

A final-night move can fit an early AREX train, a KTX departure with heavy bags, or dinner and an overnight in the same district. It earns its cost when the new location serves the evening and makes the next morning easier.

If neither leg benefits, stay at the original hotel and travel to the station or airport on departure day.

Visit both districts from the same hotel

One outing in Hongdae and another in Myeongdong rarely justifies changing rooms; choose a base around the district that anchors more plans.

Compare the districts in Hongdae vs Myeongdong guide before choosing which one should anchor your stay.

Leave the transfer day unbooked

Allow time on transfer day for checkout, bag storage, the journey and the new room’s check-in. Keep timed tickets or appointments for another day.

A nearby meal or short walk can fill the gap before the room is ready. The move is harder to justify if it changes neither the evening nor departure.

Check the route back after dark

Trace the route from the station exit to the hotel, including hills, underground passages and the final street. Map distance alone does not show the late walk after dinner or a show.

Compare the full cost of changing hotels

Compare the same four nights, guest count and cancellation terms. Add the second transfer, bag drop and check-in wait to the room total; a lower nightly rate may trade away an afternoon.

Keep the split stay when the saving remains after transport, or the final location improves a major evening and departure. Otherwise, one booking is easier to use.

Choose room features for a solo stay

For four nights, check laundry access, outlet placement, luggage space, shower layout and check-in hours against your routine, especially if you will return with shopping or leave early.

Keep an easy meal option near the hotel

Look for an ordinary meal and convenience shop near the route home. That leaves an easy dinner option after a late return without another train ride.

Planning note

Confirm the hotel’s bag-storage and check-in terms, plus the AREX, KTX or airport transfer timetable for your departure date.
