Choose Jeju City when your arrival, departure or bus-based plans cluster around the airport and the north. Choose Seogwipo when you have consecutive southern days and expect to finish dinner there. A solo base should reduce a repeated return journey, not sit at the island’s geographic midpoint.
Use the first and last day to test Jeju City
Jeju City makes a practical first base when you land with luggage, have not picked up a rental car or need to keep the departure morning simple. It also gives a bus-based itinerary more options for starting north or changing a plan. Check the current airport transport information and the local timetable for your actual route; the bus number alone does not confirm the right stop or departure time.
Move to Seogwipo when the south occupies more than one day
Seogwipo is easier to justify when two or more consecutive days start in the south and your evenings finish there too. That keeps dinner, the return and the next morning on the same side of the island. One southern outing between an airport arrival and an early flight may not repay the extra check-out, luggage and hotel transfer.
With a car, choose when to collect it as well
A rental car changes the route but does not remove the work of pickup, parking and return. If the first night is for settling in and the longer drive begins the next morning, collecting the car later may avoid an unnecessary driving day. If you need it immediately, compare the rental location and return process with the hotel’s address.
Keep the last night tied to the departure
An early flight or car return may make Jeju City the better final base even if the main itinerary was in the south. A split stay is useful when it removes repeated cross-island travel; if it only adds one scenic night, the transfer may take more time than it saves.
For current airport routes, use the official Jeju Airport transport page. Once the north–south plan is clear, compare the Seogwipo stay options and the Jeju bus guide against the exact days you will travel.
