A winter base is useful when it shortens an outdoor segment you repeat with luggage, shopping bags or tired companions. Start with the walk between your hotel entrance and the station exit you will actually use, then map the last evening route.
Choose the base around the day that repeats
Seoul Station can help when an airport-rail or intercity departure is a real part of the stay, but the station itself has long indoor corridors. Myeongdong or Euljiro can suit evenings that repeatedly end with shopping and a hotel return. Hongdae works when dinners and nights remain on the west side. Jongno or Insadong fits palace and old-centre mornings if you are comfortable with the route back after dark. Compare the actual hotel entrance and station exit rather than relying on district names.
Test the coldest part of the route
Check whether the path includes stairs, a long exposed block, a steep lane or a wait for a bus. Wet or icy pavement, strong wind and a suitcase can turn a short distance into the hardest transfer of the day. Seoul’s official cold-wave guidance and seasonal travel information help with conditions; a winter label does not mean every day has snow.
Do not move hotels to solve one cold evening
A hotel change adds checkout, outdoor travel and another check-in. Move only when several nights and the next morning genuinely shift to a different area. For a transport-first stay, compare Four Points by Sheraton Seoul Station; for a central shopping route, compare Moxy Seoul Myeongdong. The right room is the one that serves the repeated route, not the one that promises to remove every winter walk.

Best use of this page: In a Seoul winter, the most valuable hotel upgrade may be 500 metres less outside
Core judgement: Do not rank winter hotels by station count. Find the coldest, slipperiest, latest outdoor segment. Choose by location, room needs and transport trade-offs.
