Seoul Seoullo 7017 Route Decision: Transit Shortcut, Elevated Garden or a Night History Walk?

Seoullo 7017 works either as a pedestrian link between Seoul Station and nearby districts or as a walk in its own right. Pick the next street-level stop before going up; the route is easier when you know where you will descend.

What the name tells you

The former Seoul Station overpass opened as a road in 1970 and was reborn as a pedestrian park in 2017. The name also points to its 17 connections and 17-metre height. Seoul describes it as a linear park linking station-side neighbourhoods; its current Seoullo 7017 page lists the address as 432 Cheongpa-ro and the walkway 180 metres from Seoul Station Exit 1.

Choose a short link or a proper walk

With luggage, heat or a train deadline, use only the section that connects your arrival point to one confirmed exit. For a slower visit, follow the gardens and views, then descend toward Namdaemun Market, Culture Station Seoul 284 or a station plaza. The overpass is about a kilometre long, so a complete end-to-end walk plus detours takes longer than a transfer.

Check the lift or stair at both ends before relying on a step-free route. A map pin does not show the last street crossing or a temporary closure. If the group splits, agree on the descent point and meeting place before anyone walks ahead.

Make the route fit the next hour

Garden and architecture stops suit daylight; the downtown lights can make an evening walk more appealing, but the return train, weather and lighting conditions still decide how late to stay. Namdaemun is a useful food or shopping extension when it fits the direction. Avoid collecting every nearby landmark in one loop if the group has already walked all day.

Seoul Station-area lodging is practical for an early train or airport transfer. Myeongdong or Namdaemun can work better when the next evenings centre on food and shopping. Compare the hotel entrance, luggage route and morning boarding point rather than choosing by a straight-line map distance.
