Confirm eSIM support for your exact Android model
Check eSIM support for the exact model and sales region first. Search Settings for “eSIM,” “SIM,” “mobile network” or “Network & internet”; if no add/download option appears, verify compatibility before troubleshooting the QR code. See compatibility check for device guidance.
Save the QR code, order number and activation instructions somewhere available offline. Install over stable Wi-Fi only when the plan allows it; adding a profile and starting validity may be separate steps.
Before installation, confirm when the plan starts and whether the provider permits early setup. Follow the exact product terms rather than assuming that scanning always begins the allowance.
Set Korea as the data line and keep home-SIM data off
After installation, select the Korea eSIM as the mobile-data line. You can keep the home number available for calls or SMS if needed, while leaving its data roaming off.
Automatic data switching can send traffic to the home SIM when the travel line weakens. Set the Korea eSIM as the data source and keep home-SIM data roaming off unless the carrier terms require otherwise. See dual-SIM line setup for dual-SIM setup.
Change APN only when the provider requires it
Enter an APN only when the exact eSIM instructions provide one. If the plan lists no APN, leave the field unchanged; settings from another provider may interrupt a working connection.
If the phone shows signal but cannot load data, check the selected data line, the plan’s roaming requirement, validity and APN before deleting the profile. Use signal-without-data troubleshooting for those signal-without-data checks.
Once the data source is correct, verify the product’s coverage, data allowance and activation period against your travel dates.
Set up the phone before travel
Set the eSIM up while you still have stable Wi-Fi and time to check the instructions. Save offline maps before a late arrival, long drive or event exit.
For a short city visit, first test maps and messages. If you plan to share data, confirm the plan allows hotspot use and account for battery drain; see battery and traffic-splitting risks of hotspot use.
Switch the data line back after the trip
When returning home, select the original number for mobile data again. Keep the travel profile only if you may use it later and its terms allow it; save the order or reinstallation details before removal.
With Wi-Fi off, confirm that the Korea line opens a new web page, the home SIM’s data roaming remains off and essential SMS still arrives. Avoid further changes once those checks work.
Find the same controls across Android brands
Pixel settings often group SIMs under Network & internet. Samsung and other brands may use SIM Manager, Connections or Mobile network; locate the function by searching Settings rather than copying a menu path from another model.
Keep voice, SMS and data roles separate when both SIMs remain active. If the home number is only for OTP messages, do not use it as an automatic data backup.
Test the plan inside its coverage area
A Korea-only eSIM may show no service while you are in another country. During transit, confirm that the profile and instructions are saved; test data after arrival in Korea with Wi-Fi off.
Save the accommodation address, first transport route and meeting point offline before landing. This gives you a fallback while a phone registers to a local network.
Do not remove the eSIM while diagnosing a problem
Removing a SIM profile may require a new QR code. Before deleting it, record the current line and data settings, try the provider’s reversible steps, and ask support whether the profile can be reinstalled.
After returning home, switch mobile data to the original SIM. Keep the travel profile only if its terms allow later reuse; save the order and reinstall details before removing it.
A short pre-departure checklist
Before departure, confirm support, save the QR/order details, check when validity starts, assign the Korea eSIM to data and disable home-SIM data roaming.
If the line fails, use offline maps and saved tickets to finish the immediate trip leg, then troubleshoot over Wi-Fi. Avoid repeated APN changes without product instructions.
After the first successful connection, note the activation time if the plan’s validity begins on first use. This helps distinguish expiry from a settings change later.
If data works for some apps but not others, check battery saver, background-data permissions, VPN and private DNS before blaming the eSIM.
If someone helps with setup, ask them not to delete the profile or switch mobile data to the home number. The useful checks are the selected data SIM and each line’s roaming setting.
Battery saver, background-data restrictions, VPN or private DNS can affect individual apps. Check those settings if some services work and others do not.
If a companion helps with setup, ask them not to delete the eSIM or switch data to the home number. Verify the selected data line and roaming setting instead.
Before paying, verify the exact model again in device compatibility guide if the phone was bought in a different market or has carrier restrictions.
