Baekyangsa and Jangseong: A Seasonal Temple-and-Valley Day

Baegamsan rises to 741 metres in Jangseong and its terrain is rugged. The county lists routes that start at Baekyangsa but finish at different trailheads, so choose by endpoint and transport as well as distance.

Three routes, three different days

  • Temple approach: Ilgwangjeong–Cheonjinam–Ssanggyeru, about 1.3 km and 1 hour. This is the short option around the Baekyangsa approach.
  • Baekhakbong ridge: Baekyangsa–Yaksaam–Baekhakbong–Sangwangbong–Sajabong–Gain Village, 8.5 km and about 6 hours. The endpoint is Gain Village, not the starting point.
  • Unmunam and Monggye Falls: Baekyangsa–Unmunam–ridge junction–Monggye Falls–Jeonnam National University training center, 6.2 km and about 3.5 hours. Arrange the return from the training-center end.

Plan around the finish, not a loop

These county-listed courses are point-to-point. Confirm how the group will get back from Gain Village or the training-center endpoint before starting; the route listing does not provide a current bus timetable. Carry enough time for the published walking estimate, rest stops and the return connection.

Check mountain access before departure

Jangseong County describes Baegamsan as rugged. Rain, ice, heat and early darkness can change which route is reasonable. Confirm current trail notices with Naejangsan National Park’s Baekam office at +82-61-392-7288, and choose a shorter route if the group cannot complete the planned distance in the available daylight.
