Gokseong Seomjingang Train Village: Old Station, River and Slow Railway Day

Gokseong Seomjingang Train Village: Old Station, Steam Train and River

Plan around the old Gokseong Station in the park and the timed 75-minute steam-train round trip to Gajeong Station. The park entrance, steam train and rail-bike rides use separate tickets.

Start at the preserved station inside the park

The village entrance uses the old Gokseong Station building. This is the steam train’s departure point; the current Gokseong rail station is a different place, about 0.8 km away. The train village address is 232 Gichamaeul-ro, Ogok-myeon, Gokseong-gun.

General admission is KRW 5,000 for adults and KRW 4,500 for children aged 48 months to 12 years and visitors aged 65 or over. The entrance ticket covers the park grounds; the steam train, in-park rail bike and amusement rides cost extra.

Set the day around one train departure

The steam train travels 10 km each way between the old station and Gajeong Station. The operator’s current schedule allows 30 minutes outbound, a 15-minute stop, and 30 minutes back: reserve about 75 minutes for the round trip before adding garden time.

At the time checked, departures from the village were 09:30, 11:00, 13:00, 14:30 and 16:00. The 09:30 service operates April through October; the later four are listed year-round. Confirm the date-specific timetable before setting the rest of the route.

Adult fares range from KRW 6,000 to KRW 10,000 and child/senior fares from KRW 5,000 to KRW 9,000, depending on one-way or round-trip travel and seat type. The train carries 174 seated passengers and 150 standing passengers. Reserved seats can be booked online or at the station; standing tickets are sold at the station. Same-day online reservations close two hours before departure. Check the steam-train timetable, fare categories and booking rules before travelling.

Keep the two rail-bike rides separate

The village rail bike is a 1 km loop inside the park, not the longer Seomjin River Rail Bike that starts at Gajeong Station. The village ride is a four-seat bike at KRW 10,000 per bike. Buy at the site and board in ticket order; no advance reservation is listed. The operator accepts tickets from 09:00 to 17:20 and estimates about 15 minutes for one circuit. See the in-park rail-bike details for current availability.

If the steam train is the priority, take it first and use the return to decide whether there is time for the bike. Pedalling is a separate activity with its own queue; it does not replace the train’s timed departure.

Reach the right station and keep a return buffer

From Gokseong rail station, the operator lists the village at 0.8 km and recommends walking or taking a taxi. From the Gokseong intercity bus terminal, it lists 1.5 km and taxi access. The steam train boards at the old station inside the park, not at the current rail station. Leave time for the park entrance, ticketing and the walk to the platform.

A simple half-day order is: enter through the old station, check the next train departure, ride to Gajeong and back, then visit the grounds or take one short riverside walk. If the selected train or queue uses the available buffer, drop the optional walk before risking the onward connection.

Where to stay for the next morning

A Gokseong town or station-side base suits a train departure or an onward connection. A riverside stay makes more sense when the next day is also planned around the river; check evening transport and meals before choosing it. Browse Gokseong-area stays and match the location to the next morning’s route.
