Ara Waterway in Gimpo: Locks, Canal Sections and the Sea Link

The Ara Waterway is an 18 km canal between the Han River and the West Sea. Korea Tourism Organization describes it as a waterway for shipping and leisure, with public green space along its route. That scale is a reason to pick one section rather than try to cover it all.

Build the visit around one feature

Choose a lock or bridge for the water-engineering view, a public canal path for a walk, or Ara Marina for the port setting. The Korea Tourism Organization overview gives the waterway’s broad extent, but it does not confirm each path, facility or rental service for a particular date.

Ride only after confirming the return

Before renting a bike, check the operator’s current location, hours, bicycle type, route surface and return policy. If the operator does not confirm a one-way return, plan an out-and-back section. Keep the group together at crossings and use a shorter route in strong wind, heat or rain.

Use the canal as a short stop

A lock, a meal and a short waterside walk can make a complete visit. Stay on signed public paths and keep clear of barriers and operating areas. Check local notices and transport before you leave; do not count on a café, toilet or repair point unless it is confirmed for your section.
