Wolhwa Street begins by Gangneung Station; Anmok Coffee Street is beside the beach at 17 Changhae-ro. They are separate stops, so choose the station walk, the seaside café or both according to luggage, weather and the time available.
Two stops, not one street
The existing city-tourism description identifies Wolhwa as a 2.6-kilometre former rail corridor starting at the station and places Coffee Street at Anmok. A short Wolhwa section can lead into a coast visit, but the two areas need a transfer; the full 2.6 km is not compulsory.
Let luggage decide the first move
With bags, confirm station storage before starting the walk; do not assume a café will hold a suitcase. If storage is unavailable, the group is tired or the weather is poor, transfer directly to Anmok. Travellers without luggage and with time can walk a selected Wolhwa section before going to the coast.
Check café dates and the ride back
Opening hours, menus, prices, queues and seating differ by shop and day. Check the café you plan to visit. Gangneung has held its Coffee Festival at Anmok and other sites, but dates, programmes, entry rules and traffic controls change; use the current city notice rather than an old festival listing.
Before staying for the sea or sunset, confirm the correct return stop and last service. Taxi availability, parking and traffic also vary. Wind, rain, heat or cold may make a shorter outdoor walk or direct transfer the better fit. Follow each café’s ordering and photography rules, and leave space for other customers.
Choose a base around the first and last transfer
- Gangneung Station: useful for rail timing, luggage and a city-first route; Anmok still needs a separate ride.
- Anmok: puts the beach and cafés closer for a slower coast morning; confirm the station connection.
- Central Gangneung: balances city stops and the coast, with transfers to both.
