Daegu Modern Culture Alley Course 2: the fuller heritage walk

The most reliable plan is not a map covered in pins. Give the morning one theme, the afternoon one nearby direction, and reserve enough room for dinner and the journey back.

Daegu's Course 2 covers about 1.64 kilometres and takes roughly two hours according to VisitKorea. It runs through a longer chain of historic streets and landmarks than the shorter 1.32-kilometre Modern History route, so use this version when you want to follow the district's connected story.

What the longer course connects

The listed sequence starts at Dongsan Cheongna Hill and the missionary houses, then passes March 1st Independence Movement Road, Guam Seowon, Gyesan Cathedral, Seo Sang-don's old house and Gyesanyega. It continues through the old medicine-market area, Jeil Church, the Herbal Medicine Museum, Daegu YMCA, Jong-ro and Jin Alley. Treat the list as a route framework: interior visits and shop hours are separate from the public streets.

Use Gyesanyega as a practical checkpoint

Gyesanyega is at 6-1 Seoseong-ro, Jung-gu. VisitKorea lists free admission and opening hours of 09:00-18:00, shortening to 09:00-17:30 from November through February. It is closed on Seollal and Chuseok and has no on-site parking. Set the stop against the current opening time, then choose an exit toward your next meal or transit.

Choose the shorter course if access is tight

The shorter published route is about 1.32 kilometres and focuses on six principal stops. Choose it when time, stairs or weather matter more than seeing the whole district. The fuller Course 2 is a better fit when you want the additional medicine-market and alley sections; neither route guarantees that every building will be open.
