Nami Island from Chuncheon: Ferry Timing, Crowds and a Seasonal Loop

Nami Island’s ferry terminal is at Gapyeong Wharf, across the river from the island; the crossing takes about five minutes. The island visit therefore has two fixed edges—the outward boat and the return boat—so choose one walking loop and leave the final departure with a margin.

Start at Gapyeong Wharf

Regular admission is ₩19,000 and includes a round-trip ferry ticket. The operator also lists a ₩16,000 concession fare for middle- and high-school students, eligible visitors with disabilities, national merit recipients and people aged 70 or older; the child/special fare is ₩13,000 for ages 36 months through elementary school. Confirm eligibility and current notices on the official fare page.

The published ferry timetable lists the first inbound boat at 08:00 and the last at 21:00; the first boat back from the island is 08:05 and the last is 21:05. The crossing takes about five minutes. Seasonal or event sailings may be added, so check the operator’s live notice for the date you travel and do not plan around only the last boat.

Choose one loop, then turn back

For a shorter visit, walk the central tree lanes and return to the wharf. If foliage or longer lakeside paths are the reason for coming, extend toward the outer shore only after checking the time and agreeing on a meeting point. A meal stop can replace a longer circuit; you do not need to cover the entire island.

On a same-day Chuncheon itinerary, decide whether the island or the city is the priority. The ferry pier is in Gapyeong, so the trip to or from Chuncheon needs its own transfer time. Protect the mainland connection first, then add a Chuncheon meal or city stop if the return schedule allows.

Adjust the walk to the season

Autumn colour varies by date and queues can affect the time available ashore. Arrive with enough margin for ticketing and boarding, then shorten the loop if the wharf is busy. In summer, plan exposed walking outside the hottest part of the day. Rain, snow or wind can make paths less comfortable and may affect boat operations or seasonal activities; check the operator’s day-of notice.
