Cheorwon DMZ and Labor Party Headquarters: A History-First Route

The former Labor Party Headquarters and Cheorwon’s controlled DMZ tour are separate visits. The building is outside the civilian control zone and can be visited independently; entry into the controlled area is by the county tour only.

Visit the headquarters independently

The three-storey building was constructed in 1946 and is now a war-history site. The address is 265 Geumgangsan-ro, Cheorwon-eup. The Korea Tourism Organization lists it as open around the clock, open year-round and free, with parking available. Cheorwon County describes it as individually visitable outside the civilian control zone. Use the VisitKorea listing for location details and the county heritage page for current site notices.

Plan the DMZ tour as a separate booking

The county’s Peace Tourism information says individual visitors register in person on the day; phone and online reservations are not available for individuals. Groups must reserve ahead and cannot register as a group on the day. The listed departures are 09:30, 10:30, 13:30 and 14:30, with the final departure shown as 14:00 from November through February. Visitors cannot enter or move around the civilian control zone independently. Confirm the current meeting point, operating day and fee with the Cheorwon County tour information before travelling.

Keep the day’s order flexible

If you only want the headquarters, go directly to the site and allow time to read its exterior and interpretation. If the DMZ course is the priority, anchor the day to its registration and return schedule; add the headquarters only if the county tour timing leaves enough daylight. Do not assume that an open building grants access to nearby military or border sites.

Choose the independent heritage visit or the controlled tour first; their access rules are different.
