Cheongyang Chilgapsan and Chili Culture: A Mountain Morning or a Local Food Day?

The most useful date anchor for Cheongyang’s chili culture is the annual Chili and Goji Berry Festival. Outside the event, the town’s markets are the practical place to look for local produce.

Visit during the festival only when dates fit

The county lists the festival in September at Baekse Park, 377-10 Eumnae-ri, Cheongyang-eup, with local produce, food and event programming. Dates and activities change each year. Check the county festival notice and its linked event site before travelling; an annual listing is not a confirmed date for a particular year.

Use the markets outside the event

Cheongyang’s traditional and specialty markets include chili and medicinal-herb/goji sellers. The county’s market page lists Cheongyang Market at 20 Jungang-ro 5-gil and the specialty market at 165-4 Jungang-ro. Both follow market days on the 2nd, 7th, 12th, 17th, 22nd and 27th of each month. The goji market is listed as operating daily. Check the county market details before making a special trip.

Ask sellers about the product and heat level before buying or ordering. A chili display, fresh produce market and festival tasting are different experiences; choose based on the group’s spice tolerance rather than assuming every dish is hot.

Do not build the day around an unverified venue

Build the rest of the day around one confirmed market or outdoor stop. The county’s current event calendar and market listing are the useful checks for a fixed date; use them instead of relying on an old programme description.

Use the county’s current event or market notice to choose the date, then plan the route around it.
