Bohyeonsan Observatory Access from Yeongcheon

The summit Bohyeonsan Optical Astronomy Observatory is a research facility, not the public Astronomy Science Museum in Jeongak-ri. KASI’s access guide describes a long approach from Yeongcheon, so treat this as a mountain access plan rather than an evening add-on after a temple visit.

Allow for the approach from Jeongak-ri

The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute lists a city bus journey of about 1.5 hours to the Junggak stop, followed by a two-hour walk to the summit. A taxi from Yeongcheon takes about one hour; the institute lists Yeongcheon Bus Terminal at 054-334-2556. Check the observatory access guide before setting the return.

Check which facility is open

The summit observatory is a research facility, but KTO lists public events on the fourth Saturday from April through June and September through October. Reservations open at 10:00 on the Monday of event week and close at 17:00 on Friday. The separate city-run Science Museum is in Jeongak-ri; check the summit observatory visitor details before travelling. Choose a Yeongcheon stay after you know which site you will visit.
