Cheongsando’s slow paths are easier to choose when you start with the ferry window and your walking pace. Wando County lists 11 courses across a 42.195 km network, but that total is not a same-day itinerary. Pick one section, confirm transport back to the harbour, and leave time for the return sailing.
Choose between a short village walk and a longer heritage route
Maze Alley (course 11): the official route is 1.2 km, estimated at 21 minutes. It follows village lanes near the port and includes a local-history exhibit and harbour visitor centre. It is the easier option to shorten if a ferry arrives late or weather worsens.
Dolmen Road (course 3): the official route is 4.5 km, estimated at 88 minutes, through village lanes and past the dolmen park and coast. Allow more time than the route estimate for stops, wet ground and the walk to or from the ferry.
Use the island bus as a connection, not a fixed schedule
Wando County describes regular and circular island bus routes starting at Dohcheong Port and linking places such as Dangri and Sopyonje, Eup-ri and the dolmen area, Cheonggye and Beombawi, Buheung, Yangji, Sinheungri and Sangseo. The circular route also reaches Jinsan before returning to the port. The official route description does not give headways here, so ask locally for the current operating times and do not build a tight ferry connection around an assumed bus departure.
Set a turning point before leaving the harbour
Make the return sailing the hard boundary. Decide the latest time to turn back, then choose the route length and transport around it. Rain, wind, heat, uneven paths and rural road crossings can slow walking; keep an indoor or port-side fallback and avoid exposed coast when conditions are poor. A festival or seasonal field colour is an optional extra, not a reason to miss the boat.
For a first visit with limited time, Maze Alley leaves a larger margin. Choose Dolmen Road when the weather and ferry window comfortably support a longer walk. Confirm current course access, local transport, food and facilities after arrival.
