Cheongsando is about a 50-minute ferry crossing from Wando, according to Wando’s tourism information. The return boat sets the walking limit: check both directions for your date, then choose a route that can be shortened without pushing the last boarding time.
Check the seasonal timetable before setting the island plan
Wando County’s published winter timetable for 16 October–16 March lists six departures from Wando: 07:00, 08:30, 11:00, 13:00, 14:30 and 17:00. Cheongsando departures are listed at 06:50, 09:00, 11:30, 13:00, 15:00 and 17:00. These are seasonal published times, not a guarantee for a particular date. Passenger and vehicle load, weather and operator changes can affect sailings. Confirm the live schedule and ticket availability before travelling; the county lists Wando 061-552-9385 and the Cheongsan Nonghyup ferry office 061-552-9388 for enquiries.
Use the Korea Shipping Association booking portal for the ticket search. Keep a buffer for check-in, luggage, toilets and the boarding queue, and verify the return sailing before leaving the port area.
Rain plan: use a shorter village walk
For a wet or windy day, stay near the harbour and choose a village lane rather than a long exposed coast or hillside section. Wando’s official Slow-gil course 11, Maze Alley, is 1.2 km and estimated at 21 minutes; it passes village lanes and the harbour visitor centre. Course 3, Dolmen Road, is 4.5 km and estimated at 88 minutes, so it needs more dry-weather and ferry margin. Check trail conditions locally before setting out, especially after rain.
Do not treat a map distance as a return guarantee. If rain, wind or a late arrival reduces the usable time, cut the longer route and return early. The island’s roads and trail branches can take longer with uneven footing, photo stops and local transfers.
Decide where to spend the night
A Wando-harbour stay is simpler for an early sailing, supplies and onward travel. An overnight on Cheongsando gives more island time but needs a confirmed room, dinner and luggage plan. Check local transport and accommodation directly; do not assume the island bus will meet a particular ferry.
