Ulleungdo transport: connect ferry, lodging and coast

The transport plan begins at the terminal printed on your ferry ticket. Ulleungdo routes serve different island ports, and a coast stop, lodging address and return sailing can be on separate sides of the island.

Book the crossing before arranging local transfers

Check the mainland departure port, island arrival port, check-in time and return sailing on the operator’s live booking page. Do not reuse an old timetable or fare: operator, seat, route and travel date affect the available options. Ferry operations can change with sea and weather conditions, so read the sailing notice again before leaving the mainland.

When you have the tickets, send the actual arrival port and time to your accommodation. Confirm whether pickup is offered, where to leave luggage, and how to reach the next stop if the boat is delayed. A map distance alone does not confirm a shuttle or taxi pickup.

Choose the local mode for the day

The island’s official tourism transport listing provides contacts for tour-bus companies, taxis and rental cars. Ask about the route, last practical return and luggage before starting toward a remote coast section. Do not build a day around a bus departure until you have checked the current direction and stop with the operator or your host.

If using a rental car, confirm where the vehicle will be collected and returned and whether it fits your ferry booking. If using a tour bus, confirm which stops are included and how long you can stay at each. A taxi can cover a specific gap, but arrange the pickup or return quote in advance rather than assuming a car will be waiting at an isolated stop.

Keep the coast plan short enough to return

Ulleungdo’s cliffs, steep slopes and coast-to-mountain trails make route choice more important than the number of viewpoints. Pick one shore segment, check its access and transport, and work backward from the ferry or next accommodation. Add a second stop only if the actual bus or car plan leaves time for it.

For a ferry-sensitive trip, spend the final night near the confirmed departure port. The departure may not be the same harbour where you arrived, so compare the two ticket details before choosing where to stay.
