Uljin route choice: cave visit, coast drive, or both

Choose between a timed cave visit and a road-based coast day. Seongnyugul has an entry cutoff and closure days; Uljin County’s coastal drives let you choose a shorter or longer set of stops, provided you plan the return transport.

When the cave should lead

Make Seongnyugul the anchor if the cave itself is the reason for the trip. Its visitor section covers 270 m of an approximately 870 m cave. Entry ends 30 minutes before closing; listed hours are 09:00–18:00 from March to October and 09:00–17:00 from November to February. VisitKorea lists Monday and public-holiday closures, including Seollal and Chuseok periods. Confirm the day’s notice and admission details on the visitor information page.

Two coastal drives, each about 20 km

Mangyangjeong–Deoksin-riA southbound drive beside fishing villages and the East Sea.Choose a few accessible stops rather than treating the full stretch as a walking route.
Hupo Port–Jiksan-riA separate coastal-road option in the Hupo area.Set the start and end around the route you can reach and return from that day.

Both lengths are county-listed road distances. They do not describe a signed footpath, guarantee beach access, or confirm that every shoreline is suitable for swimming. Check the county route details and select stops with public access.

Keep the order flexible, but protect the return

With a car, visit the cave first when its last-entry time is the tighter constraint, then use the coast for the remaining daylight. A coast-first day can work when the cave is open and you can still reach it before admission closes. On a cave closure day, make the drive the main plan instead of building the itinerary around a stop that will be shut.

For a bus trip, check the exact outbound and return services before choosing between the two coastal corridors. Do not assume a fixed transfer time between the cave and a full coast route. Wind, rain or poor visibility are reasons to reduce the number of roadside stops, not to add more.
