Gyeongju Daereungwon: Free Park and Paid Cheonmachong

Daereungwon’s free park and Cheonmachong’s ticketed interior are separate visits. Decide whether you want the open burial landscape, the reconstructed tomb and its interpretation, or both before setting the time for the old-town route.

KRINAVI TRIP FIT

KRINAVI Trip Fit

65/100

For the travel scenario described here, KRINAVI Trip Fit is 65/100. Now that Daereungwon park is free, place its burial mounds inside the old-town walking line first and buy the Cheonmachong ticket only when the tomb interior adds real historical value. Do not use stale whole-park admission information or let one magnolia photograph replace the Silla story.

Daereungwon is the outdoor walk among Silla burial mounds; Cheonmachong is the ticketed tomb interior within the park. You can visit the grounds without paying for the tomb, then decide whether the interior adds enough to your day.

Aerial view of Silla burial mounds, paths and autumn trees at Gyeongju Daereungwon
Daereungwon is not one tomb. It is an approximately 126,500-square-metre park containing 23 Silla-period burial mounds.
Reconstructed wooden-chamber tomb structure and burial display inside Cheonmachong
Cheonmachong differs through its view of the tomb structure and burial context, not through another grass-hill exterior.

Flowering, light, crowds and the queue change this frame. It is one scene inside the park, not a year-round delivery.

Plan around the separate ticket

The current visitor listing gives Daereungwon hours of 09:00–22:00 and free entry. Cheonmachong admission is listed at ₩3,000 for adults, ₩2,000 for teenagers and ₩1,000 for children; the park's official pricing page lists group rates separately. Check the site details and Gyeongju's fee table before setting a late entry. Gyeongju lists last admission at 21:30, so Cheonmachong is not a late-arrival add-on even while the grounds remain open.

Choose the visit by what you want to see

For an outdoor heritage walk, follow the paths between the mounds and leave the tomb entrance optional. Go inside when the burial chamber and displayed finds are part of the reason for coming. The magnolia photo point is seasonal; the mound landscape and the Cheonmachong visit remain separate reasons to go.

Use the correct gate for the next stop

From Hwangnidan-gil, Gyeongju's walking guide recommends Daereungwon's rear gate as the shorter entry. Mark the gate and meeting point before splitting up. After the visit, continue toward Cheomseongdae on foot or return toward the old-town meal area; see the Cheomseongdae walking guide.
