Sunpo Wetland: Boardwalk and Lagoon Habitat

Plan Sunpo Wetland around the city-listed 1.85-kilometre trails, bird observation decks, boardwalk and Sacheon-myeon location.

Sunpo Wetland is a restored coastal lagoon in Sacheon-myeon, north of central Gangneung. Its short boardwalk visit is for the wetland landscape and bird habitat; wildlife sightings depend on season and conditions.

Use the wetland trail, not the beach as a substitute

Gangneung City lists Sunpo Wetland at San 202-1, Sandaeweol-ri, over 151,442 square metres. The restoration includes about 1.85 kilometres of trails, three bird observation decks, a wetland plant garden and a boardwalk. See the city’s Sunpo Wetland restoration details.

Stay on the marked path and use the observation points quietly. Do not plan around a particular bird or plant; the city lists species as habitat records, not a guaranteed sighting. Check the weather and current access before travelling, and avoid turning the wetland stop into an unplanned walk along the exposed coast.

Pair it with one nearby direction

Keep the rest of the visit in the Sacheon–Gyeongpo area if you want another outdoor stop. If rain, wind or access makes the wetland unsuitable, choose a separate confirmed attraction rather than treating the beach or market photos as part of the wetland route. Check the city bus information for the travel-date service and return.
