Gangneung Without a Car: Choose One Coast per Day

Car-free Gangneung works well if you stop trying to connect every beach in one day. Use your hotel and one main coastal direction to reduce unnecessary transfers.

Gangneung is easier without a car when each day stays in one area. Choose the coast or city stop that matters most, then fit the station transfer around it.

Start with the train and luggage

Use Korail’s live timetable to set arrival and departure times. Ask the accommodation about luggage storage before arriving; otherwise, plan the first stop close to the station or hotel.

Pick one coastal area

Gyeongpo combines its lake, beach and pine-lined coast. Anmok works as a café and shoreline stop. Jeongdongjin is farther south and suits a separate rail-and-sunrise day. Keep the day in one direction instead of crossing town between each place.

Use city buses for the planned transfer

Check current stops and service on Gangneung City’s bus information. When rain, luggage or a late return makes the connection inconvenient, compare a taxi to the time it saves rather than adding another remote stop.

Gangneung Jungang Market fits a city-centre meal or a rainy-weather alternative. Keep it with the station and central route; it does not need to be added to a beach day if the return transfer is already tight.

For the room base, compare Gangneung accommodation areas against the coast you chose and the station you need next.
