Anbandegi is a highland village about 1,100 metres above sea level. The Korea Tourism Organization describes steep cabbage fields shaped by farm work; the landscape is agricultural land, so keep to public roads and confirmed visitor points.
Choose the visit by visibility and daylight
Clear conditions can open the wider ridge view; cloud can cover it. If the horizon is the main reason for the trip, check the forecast close to departure and keep a lower Gangneung stop as a fallback. Do not treat a coastal forecast as a guarantee for the highland.
The road is part of the plan
Anbandegi requires a mountain-road approach. Decide in advance whether you will drive or arrange a taxi, and confirm the return pickup before climbing. Check for current road restrictions, weather, parking and access notices; do not rely on an old timetable or assume public transport reaches the fields.
Use daylight for a first visit, especially in fog, rain or winter conditions. Carry a warm layer and shoes suitable for uneven outdoor ground. Do not enter working fields, block farm roads or approach restricted wind-turbine areas.
Pair the highland with one lowland stop
Allow time to descend before adding a meal, market or coastal stop in Gangneung. A city base offers more food and indoor alternatives; a nearby highland stay can shorten an early departure but needs its own check for services and transport. Choose the base only after confirming the route and expected return time.
