Gangneung in Two Days: Choose One Coast per Day

Use the arrival day for central Gangneung, then pick one coastal direction for the next full day.

Gangneung’s station, central market, heritage sites and beaches point in different directions. Two days work better when the arrival day stays close to the centre and the next day follows one coast, rather than treating every landmark as a short hop.

Day one: settle in before going to the water

After arriving at Gangneung Station, arrange luggage storage with your hotel or a confirmed service. Use Jungang Market for a meal, then choose either Ojukheon or Seongyojang for the afternoon. Their visit details can change, so check each official notice before fixing the order.

Finish at Anmok Coffee Street if the weather and return schedule allow. A café visit and short beach walk can expand or shrink without committing the whole day to a distant coastal loop.

Day two: choose a direction

Choose Gyeongpo for the lake, beach and a coastal walk. Choose Jeongdongjin if the station, sunrise or rail-bike area is the purpose; it is not the same route as Gyeongpo. Choose Jumunjin for the northern port and market, with enough time for the return to Gangneung.

Keep transport tied to the day’s endpoint

Check your KTX or coach time before choosing a far-coast hotel or adding a late meal. Use Korail’s current timetable for train dates, and confirm local bus or taxi availability for the selected route. If wind or rain limits beach time, keep the market, a heritage visit or an indoor café as a realistic replacement.

For a first visit, the simplest split is central Gangneung on arrival day and one chosen coast on the full day. Add another shoreline only by replacing a stop, not by squeezing it into the same route.
