Mureung Valley: choose a route before you set out

Four operator-listed walks range from 25 to 50 minutes one way; the endpoint and return matter as much as the outward walk.

Mureung Valley’s operator lists four routes from its management office. The shortest reaches Okryudong in 25 minutes one way; routes to the falls, Dutasan Fortress or Gwaneumam take 40–50 minutes one way.

Choose by the time and climb your group can return

  • 25 minutes one way: management office → Samhwasa → Haksodae → Gwaneum Falls → Okryudong.
  • 40 minutes one way: management office → Okryudong → Seonnyeotang → Ssangpokpo and Yongchupokpo Falls.
  • 50 minutes one way: management office → Okryudong → Dutasan Fortress entrance → fortress; or management office → Samhwasa → Gwaneumam entrance → Gwaneumam.

These are the operator’s listed outbound times, not round-trip estimates. Allow time to return over the same route, stop and reassess the least confident walker’s pace. Keep the falls or upper trail optional if rain, wet rock, fatigue or a late start changes the day.

Make the return part of the plan

Use marked paths and follow barriers and current trail notices. Rock beside water can be slick after rain; turn back before footing or daylight becomes a concern. If the group wants a shorter visit, the 25-minute route to Okryudong provides a clear endpoint without committing to the longer falls walk.

Donghae’s facilities operator lists the valley at 538 Samhwa-ro. Its current admission table gives adults KRW 4,000; teenagers and soldiers below sergeant KRW 1,500; children KRW 700; and visitors aged 65 or older KRW 1,500. Groups of 20 or more have separate rates. Children aged six or under enter free. Parking is KRW 2,000 for small vehicles and KRW 5,000 for large vehicles.

VISITKOREA lists regular hours as 09:00–18:00, July–August as 06:00–20:00, and November–February as 08:00–17:00. Check the operator’s current notice before departure; do not plan a final trail segment close to closing time.

Use the Donghae facilities operator’s trail routes, fees and parking page and VISITKOREA’s hours and address listing to check the latest conditions.
